Sponsor A Vet For Training

Mayhew International offers an International Veterinary Training Programme for vets from developing countries who are working to help the homeless animals in their local communities. These vets come to The Mayhew Community Veterinary Clinic in London, to improve on their veterinary skills, including handling and restraint, and quick-sterilisation techniques. £250 will pay for one week’s accommodation or one week’s food/travel expenses. Most vets stay with us for two to three weeks. Sponsoring a vet will protect the future of hundreds of animals abroad.

Buy a Spay/Neuter Kit for a Vet

Too many animals are born everyday into a world where they have no hope of ever finding a home. With proper training and modern spaying and neutering equipment, a vet abroad can sterilise up to fifty animals a day. Give a vet a spay/neuter kit and help prevent more animals from enduring a life on the streets.

Dr Tumashova performs a cat spay operation via flank incision guided by Dr Mohammadzai

Dr Elena Tumashova - Kyrgyzstan

July 2007

Dr Elena Tumashova is a veterinary surgeon affiliated with the Animal Welfare Society for Kyrgyzstan. Dr Tumashova works at a private clinic in Bishkek that also offers free veterinary treatment for stray dogs and cats outside its commercial hours. Already an experienced vet of seven years, Dr Tumashova trained with Mayhew vet Dr Mohammadzai in the use of gas anaesthesia, antibiotics and analgesics regimes, cat spay operations via flank incision and dental care for small animals. At the end of her Training Programme, we gave her a large donation of veterinary supplies for use with their animal welfare work.

Update from Dr Tumashova...

Hello! Everything is fine with me, I continue to work for the Veterinary clinic " Samson " in Bishkek. Often I remember the practice in Mayhew Animal Home and all that I experienced there. All that Mohammed and your team taught me we use in the veterinary clinic. I have managed to pass on this knowledge to all the team! This summer at our clinic I gave further practical advice to students from the Veterinary Academy. I showed them methods of sterilization and castration teaching them humane attitudes to animals. Also in our clinic we carry out free-of-charge operations on castration and sterilization, to treatment of homeless animals. The training which I learnt there was invaluable and I would like that you pass on my best wishes to all of the staff at The Mayhew Animal Home.
